Logos Hope in San Fernando City, La Union
Logos Hope expected to be in San Fernando City, La Union frm May 24 to June 2.
Logos Hope brings international volunteer crew to La Union
By: Guillermo Suco
Logos Hope, the world’s largest floating book fair, will soon bring its international crew to City of San Fernando, La Union. The ship will open to the public on Friday, 24 May, to allow visitors the opportunity to meet crewmembers and purchase good quality books.
The ship’s 400 crewmembers are volunteers who have come from over 45 different countries, leaving behind families, jobs, and the security of their homes. The crew offers a unique example of unity in cultural diversity.
Some come with qualifications to fill specific roles such as engineering officers, plumbers, carpenters, bookkeepers, cooks, and other professionals. Many young people come with no qualifications except a willingness to serve. Although they have different backgrounds, the crewmembers agree on a common goal: helping people through social service projects and good literature. During Logos Hope’s recent visit to Cambodia, for example, crewmembers undertook many practical aid projects, including building projects, substantial library set-up, and a free medical and dental clinic, among the community.
Logos Hope offers an expanded selection of over 5,000 titles of books at affordable prices. They cover a wide range of subjects including science, sports, hobbies, and family life. With children’s titles, academic texts, dictionaries, atlases and more, the book fair is something the whole family can enjoy. Additionally, the rest of the Visitor Experience deck is also open for the public to explore. From the Welcome Area, which introduces the new vessel through a short movie and interactive displays, to the International CafĂ©, which has ice cream, drinks and snacks for sale, there is sure to be something for everyone.
MV Logos Hope will open to the public in City of San Fernando at Poro Point, PPIC Pier 2, from Friday, 24th of May until Sunday, 2nd of June. Entrance pass costs 20,oo Pesos; children under 12 enter for free, but must be accompanied by an adult. The ship is open to the public on Monday and Tuesday 14:00 – 21:30, from Wednesday through Saturday 10:00 – 21:30, and on Sundays 13:00 – 21:30.
Logos Hope is operated by GBA Ships e.V., an international, charitable organization registered in Germany. In almost 40 years of service, the organization has welcomed 40 million visitors up the gangways in over 160 countries and territories around the world.
